North Cape is more than a destination: it is where Europe meets the Arctic. A journey through Finnish and Norwegian Lapland, discovering Sámi culture before reaching the island of Magerøya and the North Cape promontory.
The route begins in Inari, in the heart of Finnish Lapland, with a visit to Siida, a museum and cultural centre dedicated to Sámi history and traditions. It then continues into Norwegian Lapland, crossing wild landscapes where culture and nature remain closely connected.
Along the way, the route follows the Porsangerfjord and passes fishing villages such as Honningsvåg, Kamøyvær and Gjesvær, before reaching North Cape. Here, the landscape opens onto the Arctic Ocean, with the midnight sun illuminating the horizon during summer.
The journey also includes a tasting of king crab, a local delicacy, before continuing to Alta, where the Northern Lights Cathedral (Nordlyskatedralen) and the Alta Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site, complete the experience.
The tour takes place in small groups with an English-speaking guide. It is designed for travellers interested in Arctic nature and Northern culture. No technical preparation is required, but flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing weather conditions are important. Summer brings almost continuous daylight, mild temperatures and generally accessible roads.
Flight to Ivalo, with a stopover in Helsinki, the gateway to northern Lapland. Arrival is scheduled for late evening, followed by a short transfer to the village of Inari, where accommodation awaits for the night.
The day is dedicated to discovering Sámi culture. In Inari, we visit the Sajos Cultural Centre, an important meeting place for Finland’s Sámi community, and the Siida Museum, where history, traditions and everyday life reveal the close connection between the Sámi people and the Arctic environment.
In the afternoon, we travel through northern Lapland and cross into Norway, reaching Karasjok for an overnight stay.
The morning is dedicated to Sapmi Park, where interactive experiences and installations offer an insight into Sámi traditions and culture. We then visit Sámediggi, the Norwegian Sámi Parliament, a symbol of the community’s identity and political presence.
In the afternoon, we leave Karasjok and travel towards Lakselv, crossing the open landscapes of northern Norway with a few stops along the way. The day ends with dinner included.
After breakfast, we set off towards North Cape, crossing the spectacular landscapes of Arctic Norway. Along the Porsangerfjord, we stop at Bjørnnes and Trollholmsund, known for its unusual rock formations and a local legend about trolls turned to stone by sunlight. After a stop in Olderfjord, we continue to Honningsvåg, on the island of Magerøya, where we stay overnight.
In the evening, weather permitting, we head to the Nordkapp plateau to experience the midnight sun over the Arctic Ocean.
We spend the day exploring Magerøya Island, starting in Honningsvåg before continuing to Kamøyvær, a picturesque fishing village surrounded by rocky landscapes.
We then reach North Cape, with free time to visit the site and admire its spectacular views over the Arctic Ocean. Lunch is at leisure. In the afternoon, we continue towards Gjesvær and Skarsvåg, discovering remote villages and unspoilt landscapes. The day ends with a king crab dinner, a speciality of the Norwegian Arctic.
We leave Magerøya and travel towards Alta, crossing coastal landscapes shaped by fjords and mountains. Along the way, we stop in Kvalsund, where the bridge offers sweeping views of the Norwegian Arctic.
After arriving in Alta in the afternoon, enjoy some free time to explore the town or relax. In the evening, after dinner, we visit the Nordlyskatedralen, the Northern Lights Cathedral, known for its distinctive spiral architecture.
The morning is dedicated to visiting the Nordlyskatedralen, a landmark of Alta, and the Alta Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where ancient rock carvings reveal thousands of years of human history in the region.
In the afternoon, transfer to Alta Airport for the flight home.
